Before assembly it is recommended to clean and degrease the contact surfaces of the flanges, bolts, disc packs and nuts.
To assemble the Lamaflex coupling, install the hubs (1) on the shaft ends and align the system components, making sure the distance between hubs is kept, avoiding this way to prestress the disc packs and in order to ensure that the disc packs (2) and spacer (5) can be installed.
Place the disc packs (2) and spacer (5). For the KL style coupling, the non-spacer configuration, only one-disc pack is used and no spacer. The disc pack position when assembling must be fitted so that the rings are in contact with the flange of the hub or spacer. Example of a detailed view of the bolt connection can be checked in the section “Features of disc pack screw connection”.
It is essential while tightening the fitting bolts (3) and collar nuts (4) to the correct torque, to ensure they are tightened diametrically. Before using the torque wrench, screw the components hand-tight. The collar nuts (4) shall be turned with the torque wrench to the specified torque (see table of tightening torques), while the heads of the bolts (3) are held stationary. This is to prevent excessive twisting of the disc packs.
It is important to recheck the tightness of all the screws after 10 hours of operation.
Scope of delivery in the non-spacer standard version includes:

2 | 1 | Disc pack | Steel |
3 | 4 / 6 | Fitting bolt | Steel |
4 | 4 / 6 | Collar nut | Steel |

Scope of delivery in the spacer standard version includes:
Component No. | Quantity | Description | Material |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 2 | Hub | Steel |
2 | 1 | Disc pack | Steel |
3 | 4 / 6 | Fitting bolt | Steel |
4 | 4 / 6 | Collar nut | Steel |
5 | 1 | Spacer | Steel |

Features of disc pack screw connection
The heart of the Lamaflex disc couplings are the unitized disc packs and their connection to hubs and spacers.
Two assembly options are distinguished depending on the size and configuration:
- A type assembly (with distance sleeve):
- KL and KLS size 2 to 7
- B type assembly:
- KL and KLS size 8 to 13,5
- FLS all sizes

Storage and maintenance
The coupling can be stored at a dry and roofed place for large periods of time. Rooms with humidity higher than 65% and direct heat are not suitable storage conditions.
The coupling should be periodically inspected. This routine examination should include the inspection of the tightness of the fitting bolts and collar nuts and a visual analysis of the transmission components for signs of fatigue or wear.
Tightening Torques of Screw Connections at the Disc Packs
The tightening torque values must be adhered to the next:Thread Dimension | M6 | M8 | M10 | M12 | M14 | M16 | M18 | M20 | M22 | M24 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Tightening torque TA [Nm] | 14 | 35 | 65 | 120 | 190 | 290 | 400 | 550 | 750 | 900 |
Any other tightening torque may result in accelerated wear and damage of the coupling.
