In this section, we are going to focus on another application as the alternators, in which we are going to analyse a real case study of a coupling installation in a vessel.
Tyre coupling installation in a vessel
In this particular case, we had the chance to replace our tyre coupling to locate it in alternators, where there was a deffect with certain disc couplings located previously in the installation, due to disc packs’ lack of flexiblity to absorb misalignments. Consequently, replacing with a tyre coupling provided the safety and required performance taking into account that the flexible capabilities of the tyre coupling are greater than the disc coupling, knowing that we would be talking about a semi-rigid coupling composed by metal components in full.

Definitely, the coupling sellection has to be correctly done. Depending on the application, certain couplings might fit correctly with the installation requirements, or not. Consequently, the main features of each coupling should be checked, in order to make the right sellection and make sure we avoid possible breaks.
